"The hola change the baby's diaper."
Earlier today, Camilla had a playdate with Julia at her home. Camilla recounted her visit with the above phrase as we were getting ready for bedtime. During our visit she saw Julia's nanny, Vicky, who is Mexican, change Julia's baby brother's diaper. Camilla tends to name any unfamiliar Mexican woman as 'hola.' This is one of the first unique sentences that Camilla has uttered. Unique in that it's a sentence that she put together herself to express a thought and isn't simply repeating what she may have heard anyone else say.
For the past several days, Camilla's been exhibiting much more mature and sophisticated behavior. She has been uttering phrases that are very appropriate to the situation. For instance, we were walking down the street the other day and a construction crew was working on the road with some equipment. Camilla will ask, what seemed in earnest, "What's that noise?" to the sound of a jackhammer tearing into the pavement. Or just this morning, she pointed at a picture and asked, "Who's that?" The behavior that really takes me aback is when I would tell her to be gentle and she would look at me with very sad eyes and take on a remorseful expression on her face, whereas in the past she would just drop to the floor and throw a tantrum.
I've been seeing a very different Camilla lately, which makes me realize that her baby days are behind us. I'm starting to see seeds of thoughtfulness and conscientiousness emerge. It's simply amazing to witness such a transformation.
