For our fundraising efforts for UCSF, we have been invited to be featured in their new campaign brochure. The photo shoot proved to be a challenge as the photographer and campaign staff all worked hard to get a couple of particular individuals to cooperate. I think their efforts paid off as we have at least two good shots.

This past week, we spent a few days in Palm Springs with our friends, the Lesters. On Tuesday, we rode on the aerial tramway up to San Jacinto state park in the mountains. At over 10,000 feet elevation, we got a good view of Palm Springs and the surrounding area. It was neat to have started off in the desert and ended up among the snow-capped mountains in less than 10 minutes.

On the day of our departure from chilly Webster, NY, the snow gods bestowed upon us a fresh blanket of snow. We decided to let the kids fully experience it before packing up and heading back west.

Last weekend, we took the train up to San Mateo for the annual Maker Fair. It was the kids' first time on a train and they seemed to have enjoyed the ride:

Last Sunday, we went to visit a B-24 (the only one left in the world that can still fly) and a B-17 on display at Moffett Field

Last Saturday, we celebrated Camilla's 4th birthday. As usual, there was a great turn out and fun was had by kids big and small.

I know it's been a while since I posted, so here are a couple of pictures.

Morning Mischief: Thomas has been quite mobile these days and gets around fairly well as he slithers around on the floor. He's also been pulling up to standing and is showing signs that he's ready to cruise. This means that he's becoming quite the troublemaker as he explores new territory from an upright perspective.

Contact: Camilla's been spending a lot of time in the pak 'n play whereas Thomas wants nothing to do with it as he enjoys his burgeoning mobility. I caught this seemingly tender moment as the two sibs interact.

Camilla at her physical therapist's office. Lately, she's been really enjoying her sessions with Janet and her Occupational Therapist, Gwen. Even though she's been going to the same place for almost three years now, lately it appears that she's coming into her own and really starting to explore the space and all the toys within it.

Play is such an important component in a child's development and although Camilla is no stranger to it, she is showing that she is reaching a new level of play that is more sophisticated. She is engaging in play that is deeper and longer lasting, letting her own creativity take shape and applying more imagination in what she's doing. A more engaged type of play involving the imagination is very important in how a child makes sense of the world. It's a foundation to relating with others, problem solving, as well as many other applications. Watching Camilla play provides another peek into how she sees and moves about in the world.
